Nicholas Pooran’s superb innings that helped Lucknow Super Giants achieve a five-wicket over Sunriser’s Hyderabad in the IPL would surely catch the attention of Mitchell Marsh. In the match, Pooran struck a stunning 70 off 26 balls. Also, Shardul Thakur’s four wickets helped in chasing the set target of 191 runs.
Mitchell Marsh was a mere spectator at the non-striker’s end while he watched Nicholas Pooran torment the Sunrisers. Pooran’s lethal 70 off 26 balls including 6 sixes and 6 fours ensured the LSG’s five-wicket win in the IPL. All rounder Mitchell Marsh even went on to say, “It is a relief that I don’t have to bowl to that West Indian massive hitter.
The elegant left handed batsman was amazing. His playing style is fascinating.” This is the perfect description of Pooran that any other batsman in the world tried to hit it into orbit.” The stand bewteen his 116 runs helped Pooran add his into the list of his brilliant performances. However he Marsh scored 52 off 31 balls, Mitchell was 15 short of breaking his half-century mark.
“The only word I have for it is ‘fascinating’. I’ve played against Nicky for a long time, and usually, I’ve been on the receiving end of such innings,” Marsh narrated during the post-match press conference in Hyderabad.
“Sharing the same dressing room together, I do have a strong bond with him as a bloke and as someone who, fingers crossed, I would be batting together a lot.”
Both the batters had scored half-centuries in the season-opening match against the Delhi Capitals, but the team lost the thriller by just a wicket.
“To be honest, there wasn’t a lot of chat. When someone is in the zone like that, you just finish off the work and keep going. He was pretty much impossible to stop tonight,” said Marsh.
“Regardless of which team is on the pitch, you must execute properly in all 40 overs to clinch a victory in the IPL. Chasing seems to be the most efficient strategy on this pitch, and it paid off.”
But it was Shardul Thakur, the LSG all-rounder, who claimed the title of ‘Player of The Match’ after claiming four wickets in the match, and Marsh highlighted the brilliant performance that kept the other cracking side under 200 runs.
“Shardul was outstanding,” praised the Australian. “He has the experience to navigate these moments, especially when Travis and Abhishek were putting us under pressure. It was a good match for all of us, but Shardul was the star of the show.”
“I will forever support how proud we was today of his action @ young bowlers. That showed the efforts we have to execute our plans as desired,” was one of Marsh’s earlier quotes. “But the game has evolved, We hope to see a 300-run total in the IPL this season, just not against us,” he ended.
